Yes you will. We will need you to disclose the nature of your learning requirement at the application stage. This will enable us to decide on the best level and type of support that you might need, and how we can make any reasonable adjustments to the Apprenticeship programme to enable you to successfully complete it.
After the two years of structured training, you will be required to go through the end-point assessment. This is a three stage verification to show that you are competent in all aspects of the Apprenticeship. The three stages are:
1. A 40-question online multi-choice questionnaire, where you have to choose the correct answer from four possible answers.
2. A 75-minute interview with the assessor based upon a portfolio of evidence that you will have built up over the two years of your Apprenticeship. We will provide constant help and support during your Apprenticeship to enable you to buid up a portfolio that reflects your best work!
3. A practical assessment where you will complete a practical task or tasks, including answering questions about what you have done.
You have to pass all three stages of the end-point assessment for you to successfuly achieve your Apprenticeship.
The Apprenticeship will last for approximately two and a half years. For two years you will be given structured training at one of our training centres, in Sheffiled, Slough and Hinckley.
The training will be a combination of practical training in blocks of up to two weeks. During these two week periods, you will be required to stay near to the training centre, and we will provide hotel accomodation and cover costs to enable you to do this. After a two week block at the training centre, you will spend up to six weeks with a trained Heating Technician, who will be your mentor during the Apprenticeship. You will accompany them on scheduled installations and maintenace calls to our customer’s homes.
During the two year period you will cover all aspects of the Low Carbon Heating Technician Apprenticeship standard. At the end of two years you will spend up to four months undertaking your end-point assessment. By the time that you have completed your end-point assessment you will be fully competent and be able to undertake work on your own in customer homes.

We do not have set age requirements, however to apply for an Apprenticeship at Octopus, we need you to have your GCSE’s in Maths and English, and also to have passed your driving test.
We ask that you have your GCSE (or equivalent level qualification) in both Maths and English before you join us. This is so that we can be sure that you are able to understand the content of the Apprenticeship programme. We will however ask you to complete a maths and English test when you join us, so that we can identify if there are any particular areas that you may need support with. If this is the case, then we will provide you, as part of your Apprenticeship, with that extra support.
Once you successfully complete your Apprenticeship, you will be offered a position as a Heating Teachnician within Octopus Energy Services.
Once you successfully complete your Apprenticeship, you will receive your Level 3 Low Carbon Heating Technician Apprenticeship certificate.
Our Low Carbon Apprenticeship should take you around two and a half years to complete.
