Renewables play such a key role in building a sustainable future, and you could be a part of that future. Our Apprenticeship programme will take you from brand-new to guru in the renewable energy space in just 2 and a half years.
On our Apprenticeship programme, you’ll learn everything from effective communication, getting to understand our business, solving problems as part of a team, and working with the latest renewable energy tech including Air Source Heat Pumps, Ground Source and Solar Thermal.
On our Apprenticeship programme you’ll learn from some of the most talented pros in the industry, working for one of the most influential green energy tech companies in the world. You’ll play a massive part in our future success, showing up on the frontline and driving our mission.
You’ll work towards our employer-led Level 3 qualification in Low Carbon Heating Technologies, taught by our in-house experts and our selected end point assessment organisation NOCN. By the end of the programme you’ll be fully skilled and confident in bringing our green tech to customer homes.

What you’ll do
During our 2-year programme, you’ll work as part of an awesome team to support the installation of low carbon technology, including air source heat pumps, in customers’ homes. Spend your time interacting with customers to install, service, fault find and repair our amazing tech. You could even find yourself planning, selecting, installing, servicing and maintaining low carbon tech with the supervision and support of experienced team members. You will also be responsible for:
Who you are
We’re looking for passionate, authentic people who take pride in the work they’re doing. We want to see how you embrace change, go above and beyond, and put our customers at the front of everything you do. It’s also important you’re comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces. You must have Maths and English GCSE at level 4-9, functional skills Maths and English, or equivalent, and a full UK driving licence with no more than 3 points. The next steps We do things a little differently around here. If successful in your eligibility questions, we’ll invite you to complete our online blended assessment. This is made up of multiple-choice questions and three short video interview questions, but we’ll give you all the instructions you need to complete this. You’ll be scored fairly by a real person and if you stand out to us, we’ll invite you to a virtual assessment centre where you can show us what you’ve got.
Apprenticeship: Level 3 Low Carbon Heating Technician Duration: 24-months (plus 4-month EPA – End Point Assessment) Start Date: 8th October 2024 Salary: Starting salary (for age 16-20) £17,652, and (for age 21+) £20,381 with salary progression throughout and a final salary, after 5years in role, from £40,000.
When you join an Apprenticeship with Octopus Energy, you’re joining hundreds of others looking to build a career with great progression. Once you’ve completed the programme you’ll be fully ready to become one of our brilliant Engineers, but it doesn’t stop there.
Your salary will grow throughout the programme as you do too, and after 5 years in the role you’ll be earning at least £40,000 a year as a qualified Heating Engineer.
